My 5th day at DFI

Day four of Digital Fluency Intensive

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

Cybersmart
Teaching students to be cybersmart is really important!
A student who is being bullied online can take a screenshot as a record to show the teacher.
Making comments that are positive, helpful and thoughtful the same as an offline conversation.
Posting onto your blog for both students and teachers is a story of learning.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

Kawa of Care on how you should be looking after a device. I will run through this at the beginning of each term and if I see incorrect use happening more frequently like it has started to happen at the end of this term. Reminding students about the Kawa of Care.

Google Keep
Instead of all those bits of paper I write notes down on, store documents all over the place and can never remember where, notes I make at meetings and forget about. There is one place I can start storing all of these, on my very own google keep!
When creating a new note, give it a label for filing with the 3 dots.
Remind me: schedule a reminder for when you want a notification about your note.
Share your note with a colleague, friend, family for collaborating.
Colour code, for filing and organising.
Add an image. Now this is fascinating and so useful…

Now google keep is not just for work. You can of course organise your personal life, share google keep for grocery lists and have it connected to your phone. No more getting into the supermarket with your shopping list.
Collaborative learning with google keep. Share a google keep with your colleagues to plan together without being in the same room.

Google sites: get into the habit of remembering how to do something by practising. Created a sandpit site I should practise  with new apps I am learning.

Multimodal: say, write, visual so in year groups we shared ideas of how we could create an inquiry on (feet) on a google site. I am going to try and include every app we have learnt!
In my teaching am I including multi modes of teaching? No I don’t!
Reading, SSR, listening to audio, discuss, answer questions from text, create?
Sunshine booksjournal surf , instructional series, remember I can use google keep from taking a photo and grab image text.
I could create screencastify for audio on journals to site, students can also screencastify

Use a song/video/images/real objects/incorrect images and objects/ grouping of items/ te reo/made of any of the apps we have been shown.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?  

Asking students how they are modelling Kawa of Care.

I think we should take some photos of correct use of Kawa of Care.
Digital Dig, I would like the students to make some comics of what they have learnt how to do this year.
Websites, setting up a learning task to create an awareness of being cybersmart with websites. I will use the Tree Octopus as a learning example of being cybersmart.
Using the correct terminology is being cybersmart.


Google Keep
Brainstorm use google keep as a form of class brainstorm, prior knowledge, learning story. I have emailed this googlekeep note to my class to see what happens...

Now with this feature you can have students alter the text, include their name in the text, change the sentences around as proofreading, add adjectives or adverbs.

Google sites and multimodal, from now on I will put more effort into setting up my planning to include an opportunity for everyone to participate in the learning. Not every week will have all modes but I will be aiming for more creating, listening, doing.
